Andrew Ewan Thomson Rehab Fund

This fund is being set up because a dear friend of mine (most likely yours too) is in serious need of some help right now. Those of you that know Ewan, already know he is a big man with a heart of gold.  The size of his heart is only exceeded by his great sense of humor and passion for high jinxes. What some of you might not know, is that Ewan is also an alcoholic.  He has attempted to battle his personal demons alone for many, many years. Unfortunately, he recently hit rock bottom, so much so that even he now realizes he wants/needs to change.
Unfortunately, not many can handle such a desire without a lot of help from their friends and professionals alike. Ewan now realizes that and has given me his blessings to ask for help from his friends.

Right now, Ewan is in a semi-secure detox facility at Prince Williams Medical Center in Manassas, VA. We took him there last Monday evening (October 20, 2014) so he could voluntarily have himself commited for treatment. The man has no insurance, no job, no home and no money. About all he had that night were the clothes on his back. He is doing well so far in detox.  Well at least as well as anyone could be expected to do. He also knows that getting away from the chemical hold that alcohol has on his body is only the first step towards the changes he wants in his life. He is well aware that once released from the detox facility in a few days, he is going to need to enter into some type of rehab program in order to start making the necessary changes to get to where he truly wants to be.

Unfortunately, with no insurance or any real personal assets, his options for getting into a program are fairly limited. I and a couple other close friends, would like to give him the chance to enter a private rehab facility close to his former Winchester, VA home. In order to do so, we must pay an up front cost of approximatey $3,500 to get him into a room for at least 30 days. None of us really have that sort of disposable cash available to us. So with Ewan's blessings, I am asking for help from his friends.

As you all are probably very aware, Ewan is an immigrant to the USA from Scotland. He's made many friends while here, be it through his love of fishing, his service on various resue squads, or from his jobs as a car salesman. I'm sure all of you found him to not only be a delight to be around but also found him to be a very proud and somewhat private soul. He isn't much of one for asking for help, even though I've never known him to hesitate to help others in need. So I ask on his behalf for any help folks might be willing to offer. Yes our stated goal is high. Maybe even unrealistically high. Still, any amount will certainly help.  If we fail to reach our goal, any money raised will be given to Ewan after he finishes up with a state rehab program and is ready to start getting his life back to normal.

I thank all for reading this far and respectfully ask that people share this fund request with as many people as possible. Share it on your facebook walls. Post it on the bulletin boards of your rescue company hall. Tell folks that might remember fishing with Ewan. If you know the folks at the Ted Britt auto dealerships, please share it with them. You folks in Scotland, any help you can provide in letting folks over there know, would be much appreciated. I know Ewan has made a lot of friends over the years, despite his battle with alcohol.  I also believe that if we can reach even half of his friend here and in Scotland, we will no doubt be able to help our friend out in his time of true need.
