Medical Mission Trip to Haiti!

Donation protected
Hi everyone!! I hope that that this message finds all of you well.

I wanted to share some exciting updates with you all. I am approaching the end of my third year of medical school and have been selected to participate in an International Medical Service Learning Program. I, along with other medical, dental, and nursing students will be traveling to Fort Liberté, Haiti.  In conjunction with the National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians in New York (NOAH-NY), we aim to provide quality healthcare assistance to numerous underserved communities. And while I will be working primarily on a pediatrics team, the scope of care administered will include various specialties.

On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake damaged many parts of Haiti, with several areas continuing to suffer 7 years later.  As a child of immigrants, I know well the impact natural disasters have on a developing country, and I feel a need to give back to under-resourced communities.

I participated in a similar trip in Gondar, Ethiopia last summer (that's where the picture on this page is) and loved the experience. This trip to Haiti will further help develop my medical skills without relying on modern technology.  I will also learn how to manage diseases not generally encountered during medical training in the US. Finally, this trip will give me a better understanding of the interaction between health, social, cultural, and environmental issues. I believe that this International Medicine Service Learning Program will make me a better and more resourceful physician in the future.

So, I am asking for your help in raising the funds needed to participate in this mission trip.  Your contributions will help with travel, accommodations, and food for me as well as some supplies for the people we will be working with. Your generosity will go a long way and will impact not only my medical knowledge and experience, but also the lives of the Haitian community where we will be working.

I greatly appreciate anything you can contribute and I thank you in advance for your donations, love, and continued support!
