Ever since I've known Steve he has worked tirelessly to take care of his family. In that role, he often worked multiple jobs, spent his free time building and repairing broken anything, and just being that reassuring, strong and loving presence for when times inevitably get hard. This past year has been extremely hard on Steve. First, he lost his fiancée to an unforeseen illness, and now Steve is sick and in need himself. Steve is the type of man who will always give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and now we have the chance to return the favor.
For months, Steve grappled with symptoms that drastically decreased his mobility and quality of life. In August he was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis, a disease that occurs when your bone barrow produces abnormal antibodies that can't be broken down. It can affect the heart, kidneys, skin, nerves, and liver. Treatment began in August 2018 with four months of weekly chemotherapy, with the possibility of a stem cell or heart transplant later, depending on how his heart is doing after chemo.
If you know Steve, you know he does not do well on the sidelines, so being out of work on top of health issues hasn't been great for him. Finally having a diagnosis and treatment plan has buoyed him greatly, but there is more we can do to keep his spirits up. On top of being an incredibly generous man, Steve is not the type of person to ask for help, instead wanting to give as much as he can to his friends, family, coworkers, and even strangers. We are asking for you to help cover the cost of copays, doctor visits, medication, and day to day expenses, so that we can relieve a little more stress for this man who has touched so many lives.
