Help urban Ghanaian students learn a trade

Ghana is situated in West Africa and has land borders with the Republic of Togo in the East, Ivory Coast to the West and Burkina Faso in the North and at the southern end is the Gulf of Guinea. The Coastline is 560 km long. The population of the country is close to 27m people.
The country is classified as a low middle income country. The main exports of the country include cocoa, products of mining (minerals and oil).
Recent studies show that 51% of the population is urban and 49% rural. This situation has resulted in migration of people into these cities with the hope of finding non-existent jobs. Many of the youth who rush to the cities do not have requisite skills for the jobs. Hence they do not have the skills for earning adequate income to survive urban life. Currently the Junior High and Senior High School system produce over two hundred young people between the ages of 18 and twenty-five years who do not proceed to the next level of the educational ladder and are very unskilled. Many of these young people are not able to move on to the next level of the education or acquire employable skills because they do not have sufficient resources for the acquisition of relevant skills and therefore continue to live in poverty.
The Government of Ghana introduced the Free Senior Secondary Policy which has improved enrollment at the Senior Secondary School level. However, there still remains a sizable number of young people who are not able to enter the job market with adequate skills and drift into poverty especially when they migrate into the urban areas of the country. Such young people are very vulnerable to being recruited into armed robbery gangs and also being involved in all sorts of vices and move further down into poverty. This vicious cycle needs to be addressed by selectively providing opportunity for such youth to acquire relevant skills.
Certain vocations such as Vehicle mechanic, Tailoring, Electrician, Masonry, Mobile phone repair, Plumbing, Food processing and bull/ram fattening have been identified through which such young persons could acquire employable skills within two years. The young people could be attached to Master-Craftsmen for two years as apprentices and at the end of their training could be reasonably employed to take them out of poverty and off the streets.
This proposal seeks to train fifty (50) young persons in two years in vocational skills outlined above. The total cost is one hundred and forty thousand Ghana Cedis (USD 25,925) over two years. Such sum will be used to pay for the cost of training at two thousand eight hundred Ghana Cedis (USD 520) per trainee.
The trainees after their apprenticeship would have their capacities built in their respective fields to set up their own small scale profitable businesses.
