Gloryland Prep is a private elementary school in Arusha, Tanzania. It educates its growing student body in English, French and Swahili, Math, Science, History, Geography, and Social Sciences, and provides them with important information on health and sexual education. Unfortunately, the poverty in this area often prevents parents from providing their children with reliable meals, and some students only eat meals provided by the school.
The Sustainable Snack Time Project aims to help provide these children with 3 full meals per day. We plan to build a garden for the school including crops such as beans, eggplants, carrots, potatoes, leafy greens, and corn. On top of this, we will also be building the school a chicken coop, and implementing a composting system and a reliable watering system.
All funds will be put towards expenses such as the materials for the garden, buying the watering system, travel and lodging costs, etc. Any left over funds (with $10,000 being the estimated minimum to cover project expenses) will be used to set up a scholarship fund for the students at Gloryland. In the case of extenuating circumstances, such as the ebola outbreak expanding to East Africa, all funds will still be donated to Gloryland.
