Melissa's HCM journey

Some of you may have heard of HCM or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Melissa has recently been diagnosed with it. It is a hereditary heart defect that affects how the heart works. Some people have this disease and never know it because they never have a symptom. Some people have it and don't find out until its to late. It can cause sudden cardiac death and for some people it is the first and only symptom they have. Others, like Melissa, have symptoms like chest pain, heart palpitations, and shortness of breath. Most of the time it can be managed with meds and the person lives a 'normal life'. Sometimes, for people like Melissa, meds don't work. They still have symptoms and need to try other options.
Right now Melissa has had to take a leave of absence from her job. She has already used all of her sick and vacation days dealing with appointments and being to sick to work. We don't know how long she will have to be off of work for. There is going to be travel expenses to and from MAYO clinic, hotels, food, etc. In addition to regular bills each month.
