Katie Waite (Getz) Memorial Fund

Little John Douglas Waite is only still a newborn, but gaining weight and size every day.  His mother, Katie Waite, was taken off of life support  2/8/18 at 2:32 p.m..  Alex, her husband, a NAVY Vet, thought that after a couple years of marriage and Katie's  pretty routine pregnancy, they would come home from the hospital to start a new life with their first child. Katie went to the hospital in labor on Tues. 1/23/18. Although as hard as she tried, the baby was not going to come out naturally. The hospital had scheduled a C-Section for the next morning. Everything went well, Little J.D. (John Douglas), as us boys likened to already nickname him, was born at 2:30 p.m..
Katie and Alex had brought their little boy home and were ecstatic with their new gift. They were very proud new parents and sent out lots of pics and FaceBook photos of their new little gem, as all of us would as well.

Friday, 2/3/18, Katie decided to rest a little and Alex was in charge of his new little buddy. Alex had heard something in the bedroom and went to check on Katie. Upon entering the room, Alex found his beautiful bride/mother in seizure on the bed. Once transported to the hospital, the local hospital decided to Life-Flight her to a more established hospital in Cleveland to deal with this trauma. Katie had suffered a blood clot to her brain causing a massive aneurysm. The hemhorrhaging was a huge issue. With surgery completed and many prayers later, we thought that she was in the clear. We knew it may take some time for her to rehab certain things in her life, but we were OK with that. CAT-scans then came back. There was basically nothing medically that could be done to help her.  Technically, her brain had faultered.

The only reason that Katie was still on life support was that she was an organ donor. She was being kept alive by machines, just to help out other people in need. All medications needed to dissipate out of the organs before this happened. This is the kind of beautiful, heartfelt person that we all knew her as. As we have come to find out, her organ donations have helped 10-13 people.

Alex, a roofer by trade now for many years, relied on summer savings and Katie's salary to get them through the Ohio winters with the mortgage and the bills. This now has ended. The hospital bills from little JD's birth, the LifeFlight to the hospital, the burial and funeral to come, on top of the avalanche of hospital bills that will be pouring in, is not the way to celebrate the life of your first childs coming of birth.

As I have personally donated to many causes on this site, I have never thought to ask for so much help as our family needs now.
All proceeds will go directly to Alex to help out with as many bills that he can pay and to make sure that 10% goes into a college fund for little John.  Thank you all in advance for all of your support.
