Roberto “Bradley” Saenz was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called Neuroendocrine Carcinoma in September of 2015, at the age of 28. He was born and raised in Baytown, Texas, where he was a graduate of Sterling High School. Bradley attended Lee College and San Jacinto College. He is currently employed as a pipe designer for Turner Industries at Shell Deer Park Refinery.
Although un-common, Neuroendocrine Cancer may be treated through surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and/or medications. Bradley began radiation treatments on October 19th. He has a long fight ahead of him and has been told that he won’t be able to work for much longer. His treatments will be aggressive and his body will be fighting a major battle.
Neuroendocrine tumors* are very rare, accounting for less than one percent of all malignant disorders in the United States. It is estimated that fewer than 2,000 new cases occur in the United States each year. This form of cancer normally affects those between the ages of 40 and 60, making Bradley’s diagnosis even more rare at his young age.
Bradley’s passion in life are his family and friends. He is a dedicated uncle, son and brother. Anyone who knows Brad, knows he is always the first to offer help to those in need. This time he is the one in need.
It goes without saying that having cancer is expensive. The costs of treatment (even with good insurance), traveling, medications, and more are just one side. On the other side is the reduced or inability to work during treatment. The math is easy. Less in. More out. Cancer is pricey.
