Operation: Sight for Mandoo

Mandoo (rhymes with "fondue") lost nearly all sight in her right eye a little over a year ago. This is when she was unexpectedly diagnosed with glaucoma. Since then, she's received drops in both eyes (2x/day) to maintain pressure and comfort in her right eye, and as a preventative measure for her left eye. Her left eye showed no issues of any kind until I got home on Wednesday night (Oct. 15), she began to suddenly behave as if she could not see at all. She was afraid to walk towards me even when I called her name. She stared into space (as a creature who had suddenly gone blind w/o explanation) even if you were right next to her. She would look near your direction if you called her name, but no longer "at" you. :(

The medicine and surgery for canine glaucoma are much the same as those used for humans. Unfortunately, the medicine therapy does not ordinarily last nearly as long as for dogs as it does for humans. While Mandoo was successful being treating w/ just eye drops for a bit over a year (longer than most canines), it is already known now that her left eye has shown some issues, the medicine approach will only last a few months or few weeks at best.

The next option is surgery to try to retain the vision she still has in her left eye. Unfortunately, the cost is not cheap, but it is the only option left w/ a high percentage of success to help retain what is left of her sight.

I never considered doing an online fundraiser for this, but after seeing other campaigns for vet bills and costs, thought I may as well try it out. Also, if you'd rather make an "offline" donation (no fees apply), then please let me know and we can set that up, too, of course!
