Established in 2017, International Collegiate Health Initiative is a start up non-profit organization based in the University of California, Los Angeles. Our mission is to organize the establishment of voluntary medical clinics, nutritional assistance, and neighborhood resource centers. We focus on providing multicultural low-income, immigrant, and refugee populations with educational, nutritional, and medical health services.

Our goal is to establish one and later many, sanctuary clinics; where people of all backgrounds who are unable to afford medical services can have access to high quality medical care without revealing private information. Our team is composed of undergraduate and graduate students from the University of California, Los Angeles, a board of directors, and professional advisers. We are currently competing in the Lowell Milken Institute-Sandler Prize for New Entrepreneurs, raising awareness about our project, building community partnerships, expanding our team, and raising funds to open our first clinic.

Under the Trump administration, congress approved a 22.5% cut to Obamacare subsidies by 2028, and a 28.6% cut to transportation spending by 2023, and a 7.1% cut to Medicare by 2028, due to reforms meant to cut payments to providers and reduce wasteful treatment without limiting access to health care (Vox.com). In addition, “combined with the AHCA’s cuts, this budget would cut federal Medicaid spending roughly in half by 2027” and would result in approximately 24 million more people becoming uninsured (Americanprogress.org).

Due to the recent Federal Budget Cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, long term care costs for the elderly and healthcare costs for refugees, immigrants, and low-income families will increase. As more funding is being cut, the population of uninsured clients continues to rise. Additionally, cuts to transportation are limiting client’s access to health care. We are working to alleviate the issues that arise as a result by providing our mobile health care services. We plan on establishing and operating a mobile clinic in order to provide free medical services to these communities and to alleviate transportation costs.

Help us today by raising funds as we plan to open our first mobile medical clinic this year in Los Angeles, with the intent on expanding to multiple cities all across the United States and the globe.
