KONA Ironman World Championships 2022

Hi all,

My name is Roman Fedosieiev. I’m Ukrainian living in New York City. I am raising funds to be able to compete at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, this October.

An Ironman is one of the most prestigious and longest multisport events that includes a 2.4-mile swim (3.8km), followed by a 112-mile bike (180 km), followed by a marathon 26.2-mile run (42.2 km). This event is both challenging and rewarding, and I have been training hard to come this far.

I just qualified and got my spot for Kona (a long-time dream) at Ironman Alaska, where I came 2nd in my Age Group 30-34 and 9th Overall.

Triathlon has been my passion since I was 21. It has a special place in my heart and life because the sport was introduced by my father, who is currently in Kharkiv, Ukraine. During such a challenging time, being away from my family, triathlon helped me cope with stress, and the friends I made while doing this sport became my second family, helping me keep moving forward despite the devastation due to the war and missing my family. Kona has been my long-time dream, and my biggest goal for this race is to bring my country to the most celebrated and well-known race to raise awareness. Needless to say, while going through this journey, I keep myself sane by focusing on things I can control and impact.

Right now, I am balancing multiple jobs to make ends meet: I'm a swim coach for the Brooklyn Stingrays, a triathlon coach with Brooklyn Tri Club, I work for New York Road Runners in their Run Center, and I work at Trek Bicycle shop. I am doing this all on top of training for Kona. My life is demanding, but this is keeping me sane and motivated during this crazy time, and I love to set new goals and work hard to achieve them. I was able to secure my place by covering the large entry fee, and now I am in the process of figuring out the logistics, accommodation, flights, and bike transport with very little time remaining.
