Hi y’all. Just wanted to give you all an update on how I’ve been doing. Recovering is taking much longer than I ever anticipated, and has been a long and arduous road. Each day is a bit different, and I’m never sure what to expect. I have better days and then I have bad days (where breathing is a real struggle and fatigue can be completely overwhelming, among other things). I’m still reliant on oxygen therapy 24/7 unless I’m showering or eating. When I’m having “better” days I try to wean myself down to 2 liters of oxygen per minute, but this sometimes leads to chest pain and tightness, and then I have to turn it back up. Sometimes even small tasks like preparing dinner or doing laundry leaves me winded, short of breath and exhausted. It’s sometimes hard to remember what feeling healthy was like before this (even though I had my own host of health issues before I got sick with Covid that I was wrestling with, including figuring out a possible tick-borne disease).
On top of all this, expenses have really been adding up. Some of you may know that due to the pandemic I have been out of work since mid-March (health reasons--being high-risk). Covid has no real treatment, although if you are in hospital you can get access to medications you cannot if you aren’t and you can also gain access to research studies. One of the biggest expenses we’ve faced is my oxygen concentrator ($1700 with parts/adapters), but I’ve also been paying to treat myself with herbalists (consultations and herbs), western medicine co-pays and prescriptions (including a hospitalization and two trips to the emergency room), along with just everyday costs (child support, rent, car payments, healthcare premiums, auto & rental insurance, credit cards, student loans, groceries, internet, etc.).
I’m starting a GoFundMe (they bought out YouCaring) fundraiser page, but full disclosure: they charge me 5% fee of everything I raise plus a 2.5% per credit/debit card transaction fee.
