Maddie's Medical Fee Fund

Asking for help can be hard and humbling but mostly just hard.  As a strong, confident, compassionate woman who is married to a strong unstoppable man, we never wanted to be in a situation that financial help would be needed.  For six years, we have been learning to become a successful blended family.  With 4 +2 kids blended together, you can imagine the obstacles we created for ourselves when we fell in love.   One of the things we are constantly learning is how to be the best partners in parenting for one special little girl, our Maddie Moo.  It is with her permission, I am sharing a bit of her story and ours in hopes to educate about her diagnoses and hopefully help you understand why we are asking for assistance.

Are you familiar with diabetes?  Diabetes, in its simplest definition is a chemical/hormonal imbalance in the pancreas or the inability for the pancreas to regulate or produce a specific hormone/chemical.  Maddie’s diagnosis is similar in that it’s a chemical/hormonal imbalance in the brain or in other words her brain’s inability to regulate or produce a specific hormone/chemical.  On the surface, that sounds like it’s no big deal, right?  What is a big deal, is the lack of common knowledge of her diagnoses, the stigma and judgment that stems from those diagnoses and the lack of appropriate insurance/health care coverage for them.

Maddie has four diagnoses that hinder  properly functioning brain hormones.  She has SPD, ODD, ADHD and BPD.  I know, I know a LOT of acronyms. Balancing just one or two of these can be a challenge but to manage four takes a team.  Recently, we needed an (8-day) INPATIENT team to help.  You see, even though her diagnoses came in early childhood, as an adolescent, lots of other things change that affected the plan of action we had been successfully following.  In addition to an extraordinarily high deductible and out-of-pocket costs through the city where my husband serves, much of her on-going treatment isn’t covered at all.  Her medications alone cost $150.00 per month as well as weekly treatments @$75.00 each.  We are currently behind on two weekly treatment payments, but we have a great clinician who continues to see her regardless because cancelling due to finances is not beneficial to her.

I want you to know I am married to an amazing man, who is stepping up and working as much overtime as is allowed as well as any “off duty” shifts as his patrol schedule will allow to help us survive in this time.  For those of you who don’t know, I married a hero: a USMC veteran who currently continues to serve us in the roll of police officer.  His ongoing sacrifices are humbling to me and I am honored to be his wife. I felt that it was important to tell anyone who might support us that we are working extra as much as we can and aren’t asking for a simple hand-out.

Our funding request would help us with charges that we currently owe two hospitals and a multitude of physicians who bill separately, as well as help us with the gap of her ongoing treatments that are not covered.  Any amount helps, or just simply sharing her story on your page is appreciated!  Thank you in advance for loving on us and more important than money, we covet  your prayers, because after all, it is only through HIM that we gain strength, wisdom and healing.

Thank you,
