WHO AM I?

-I am an eternal learner. I believe in learning and developing myself professionally, and unprofessionally, through my studies and life experiences.
-I am a humanitarian. I believe in helping those who need it the most- those whose circumstances make it more difficult to attain resources and to live happy, healthy lives.
-I am an Adventure Club program assistant and role model to 48 students at an McKelvey Elementary School, and I believe that both a proper education system and support system are vital to providing opportunities for children to create successful futures for themselves.

MY MISSION:
-My name is Alexandra Meseke, and it is my goal in life to make a difference in the lives of others. More specifically, I want to help underprivileged children and families to attain resources that will allow them to achieve success and happiness.
-This is one of the many stepping stones of my lifelong journey to create real, and lasting change.

WHERE AM I GOING, AND WHEN?

At the end of January (2020) I will be traveling to Honduras to live, and teach for 10 months. I will be living in a low-income underdeveloped subdivision called Brisas de Valle in Santa Elena, Honduras. It is roughly 45 minutes away from the city San Pedro Sula. It is surrounded by mountain ranges and is out of range of the political unrest in Honduras. I will be working at Garden School Victoria.

WHAT IS GARDEN SCHOOL VICTORIA?
Garden School Victoria (GSV) is a bilingual school for elementary-age students that relies on volunteers, sponsors, and scholarships to provide high-quality education to the surrounding communities. Sarah Funda is the volunteer coordinator with whom I've had the pleasure of speaking with, and interviewing with about a teaching position at GSV.

WHY AM I GOING TO TEACH IN HONDURAS?

My Passion: It is my desire to be a part of the team that contribute resources and opportunities to children of underprivileged communities in order to help them build a better future- not only by teaching them a second language, but also by providing emotional support and creating an environment that encourages self exploration.
Self-Development: I believe that volunteering in Honduras will also allow me to further develop myself as an individual who is aspiring to become a Child Psychologist. Research shows that therapy is much more effective when a person's culture is accounted for, and so for me to be the best that I can be when I am working with families in the future I need to be knowledgeable of the variance of behavioral needs in different cultures.
(Contact me for the research articles if you feel so inclined)

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT MY MISSION?
Donations:
Any amount of donations are greatly appreciated.

Sponsorship:
I would happily discuss opportunities for business-owners to sponsor a fundraising event for this mission, or to sponsor the trip itself. If you think you may be interested, please email me:
[email redacted]

Advice:
This will be my first time traveling to Honduras, and my first time teaching abroad. If you have experience in either of those areas I would love to hear from you! Likewise, if you have any similar or relevant life experiences, or any amount of advice, please feel free to reach out to me.

Follow & Support:
Of course, financing is what I need the most of to make this trip possible, but that doesn't mean other types of support are unhelpful or unappreciated! You can follow my progress on social media, follow my trip after I leave, share my mission with your friends/family/potential sponsors, etc.
