HELP US HELP HEART! Many of you already know Heart's story – it's one of survival of the fittest, and a contest Heart nearly lost after she was attacked and left to suffer with a badly torn (and later infected) throat. We wish we could say that this is the end of a terrible saga, but with all the attention devoted to healing her neck, Heart hid her badly injured hip as only an animal in survival mode can. Weakness means death. Heart made the trip to Toronto with no one the wiser.
It took nearly a week in foster care before Heart finally let her guard down long enough for her foster to see her limp. It takes just a few minutes of running for Heart's hip to give out, but since she loves to run so much, she pulls her bad leg up and keeps going on three. It's clear though that she's in awful pain…in the way she will whine softly after the park or a walk, after she goes up the stairs, and in the way she won't sit or lie on her left side.
Even if you're not a vet, you can see how damaged her hip is. There is no choice but surgery.
Heart has been through such a terrible ordeal, and has come out peppy, bright and in love with life. She deserves a chance to be able to run without pain. She deserves a chance at a normal life.
