TEAM JACK!
Jack's story was supposed to have ended a year ago and it was supposed to be a happy ending. But the Kramer family left with possibly the worst news possible - Jack's cancer has returned.
For the last month or so he's been complaining about intermittent back pain. The doctors thought it was probably related to all the lumbar punctures he received and scar tissue buildup. After a series of tests they now know Jack's leukemia has returned and is in both his central spinal fluid as well as his bone marrow. The leukemia cells have the same genetic makeup as the leukemia he had before. The MRI showed no masses anywhere in his spine or brain other than the mass at the base of his spine which they found on Monday's MRI.
What this means is that Jack will definitely need a bone marrow transplant. His chemotherapy treatment will be similar but more aggressive. The overall plan is to hit this beast hard for a month, get 10 year old Jack into remission and then they are off to the University of Minnesota where he will receive a bone marrow transplant. Depending on many variables, including when he goes into remission, when they find a bone marrow donor, and other variables we don't even understand yet, he could be in Minn anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. Time will tell.
As you can see, this is Jack's second round of cancer dealt to him in his young life and the Kramer family needs our support!
