Support FlowMotion?! (and Jessi...and you!)

I am fundraising in order to attend a 300-hr advanced yoga teacher training program.

HOWEVER, this is about a LOT MORE than yoga...

When I took over the business of FlowMotion Pilates 5 years ago, I almost gave up the gig 2 years in because I couldn't fathom how a sole-proprietorship like mine could come up with the money to pay the taxes each year.  I just couldn't afford it.  This spurred me into studying very intensely until I felt qualified to offer my first Pilates teacher training program.  The money I earned from this was meager as an hourly rate, but it was an opportunity to earn the money to keep the business going.  I've managed to interest just enough teacher trainees over years to keep the doors open.  And of course, I'm wildly in love with the work.

The training I'm raising money to attend will provide me with the credentials I need (+2000 hours of teaching - I'm almost half way there now) to offer my own yoga teacher training programs.  Being able to offer these programs would allow me to continue running the business, on a modest, but potentially livable income.  I believe this to be essential to the future of FlowMotion, with me at the helm.

I am 38 years old, have no savings account, and have been to the dentist 2 times in 12 years!  I have 1 hobby, mountain biking, which does require a bike, but other than that, it's quite inexpensive.  When I travel I almost always sleep in my car to avoid costs, I get 40 miles to the gallon. I live in a house with 3 other people, and only own a car because a very generous client bought a LOT of Pilates all at once so I could buy it.  Wah wah, poor me! Point is, I don't live a wasteful lifestyle, and I work my tail off.  I love this work, and I know a lot of you love doing it with me/us, so I've embraced pulling out all the stops on ways to keep doing it.
This training costs $3250 if paid in full.  I'm attempting to raise $4800 because I will have to miss a month of work, and need a place to sleep.  I'm hoping to attend a 3-week, intensive course in Santa Cruz from 1/13/20-2/2/20.  By doing the intensive, I only pay travel expenses once. An Airbnb is barely more expensive than a campsite, and it will be 21 days straight of intense physical practice and study, so I'll try for a bed to sleep in.  I'm trusting that as has happened every step of the way so far, this leap will end up making important contributions to our community through FlowMotion Pilates, and make necessary strides toward solvency.  And I believe that after this push, I can then study and practice from home and be able to cut back on education and travel expenses in the following years.

I believe that movement education is a valid profession, and that with intelligent movement we can prevent, recover from, and manage many physical and mental health issues.  Unfortunately, this is not a profession where there is much payoff for your investment in education, or help and support to afford it.

Why Invest?

-- To ensure that your community has highly informed movement instructors - If I am able to offer yoga as well as Pilates teacher training programs on a yearly basis, together we will generate highly informed instructors in both yoga and Pilates for the Eastern Sierra. You can trust that my teachers have training in how to modify safely for clients with osteopenia/osteoporosis, spine fusions, joint replacements, and many other potential limitations.

-- For your own health and well-being - Each course I take only deepens my understanding of how to help a human being thrive, musculo-skeletally and beyond.  If you come to my classes  (I once thought I wanted to cut back on teaching group classes, but now intend to maintain a strong presence on the weekly schedule for the foreseeable future), or do a private movement class or assessment/analysis with me, you will benefit from the information I’ve acquired, even if you have no interest in practicing yoga.

--To keep the doors open!

I am so in love with the work I do, and I am so in love with our community.  It is intensely uncomfortable to reach out for this support, but it's the only way I can see moving forward.  I thank you for even taking the time to read this, and I will do my absolute best to return everything tenfold!   I also plan to put on a dinner in Bishop for our local donors ;)
