Karen's Medical Fund

At the age of 31, I've come to realize how life altering cancer is. I've heard stories from friends & family who know someone fighting cancer, but I've never seen first hand the life changing struggle cancer patients endure. I'm blessed to have never undergone such devastation, nor has any of my immediate family, until recently. A few weeks ago, my aunt, Karen Faircloth, went to the ER due to dehydration & fatigue. After running many tests over the course of a few days, the doctors informed our family that my Aunt had a mass on both ovaries & it was likely to be cancerous. At first it didn't really hit me. I didn't know what to expect. I don't think any of us really knew what she was up against. Rather than performing a biopsy & risking the spread if it was cancer, the doctors opted for surgery. That same week they performed surgery. We waited & prayed because we didn't know what else to do. The doctors periodically came out to give updates. Everything seemed to go as planned so we tried to stay positive. During her surgery, they performed a biopsy which confirmed the cause was cancer. Shocked, confused, angry, disappointed, humbled, scared, worried. All these emotions raced through my mind over the preceding days. I went about my life as normal but the thoughts lingered in my mind & weighed heavy on my heart. I felt helpless in terms of knowing how to help my Aunt as she laid in her hospital bed unable to go about her life as usual. If I was feeling all these mixed emotions, I couldn't imagine how scared, confused & worried she must be. As if the process of facing what was ahead for her in terms of recovery, then 6 months of Chemotherapy & 6 months of Radiation Therapy wasn't enough, she also has to worry about paying rent, keeping the utilities on, car expenses she'll face with all the traveling back & forth for treatments, medical bills, etc. Prior to this, my Aunt has been an LPN & devoted her life to taking care of her 4 children, grandson & her patients. At 47yrs of age, she is battling for her life physically, emotionally & financially. I don't think anyone can ever be prepared to face this battle. One day your at work, the next day your in the hospital & have no idea when you're going home or going back to work. No health insurance, no savings, no spousal support, no income, who's going to help with all the expenses? The governments idea of help is social security/disability but that's not going to adequately cover her financial burdens. If/when she finally starts receiving it. Until then who's going to help her? I don't come from a financially wealthy family. But I do come from a spiritually wealthy family. My entire life I've been taught that God will provide for his children. The best way for me to help is to ask our friends, family, & community for support. On November 1, 2014, there will be a yard sale at 1403 Constitution Dr, Port St Joe, FL. All proceeds will be donated to help meet my Aunt's financial needs as she fights her battle against cancer. I've also created this website for anyone who would like to contribute to her fund. We appreciate the love & generosity we've already received from so many & ask that you pray for our family as we standby my Aunt and fight her battle against cancer.
