Medical Fund for Cynthia Neff

Donation protected
Hi friends,
Last September, our wonderful neighbor, Cynthia, was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer after a routine mammogram. The cancer was aggressive and she immediately started chemotherapy. She has now completed chemo and one surgery, but must go back for a mastectomy on Friday, February 24th followed by many rounds of radiation.

I'm writing this today because Cynthia is incredibly special and one of the best people I know. If someone needs help, she is there and usually first in line...and now she needs some help from others.

Her medical condition has left her unable to work until she is considerably better after the mastectomy, not only because of the incredible stress that the treatments put on her body, but because she effectively has no immune system from the chemo. Cynthia is a social worker, and often worked in environments where she was exposed to pathogens that could now, without normal immune function, make her gravely ill. So her career is put on hold until she is better. To compound this problem, Cynthia was considered a contractor with the state which left her without the option of unemployment benefits. This, of course, means that she has not had an income since she started treatment.

Being a single mom of two kids (the oldest about to enter college) is also a financial stressor. She is a great mom who puts everything she has into raising her kids and they reflect that. I know she works really hard to not disrupt their lives because of the circumstances, but that it is increasingly more difficult.

I've asked Cynthia several times if I could start a GoFundMe page for her. Her answer has been that there are plenty of other people who need help more than she does.
She has always been independent, relied on herself, worked hard, and been up for any challenge. However, there are some challenges that take friends and family and community to overcome. This is one of them, and she finally gave me permission to start a page.

I'm asking you to consider giving whatever you can to help this family along until Cynthia recovers. She is a fighter. Her prognosis is good. Please do what you can to lift some of the financial burden off of her shoulders so that she can concentrate on taking care of herself and her children. She has given to so many. No one deserves a little help more than she does.

Thanks so much,
