Panama City Hurricane Relief

On Wednesday, October 10th a Category 4 Hurricane made landfall in the Panhandle of Florida. Hurricane Michael was 2 mph short of a Category 5 Hurricane, and the 3rd worst storm to ever make landfall in our country.  Our hometown, Panama City was completely destroyed. Not one single part of the city was spared from damage or destruction.

By the grace of God, our families lives were preserved, and while their homes are unlivable at the moment, they still have walls and are to be counted among the fortunate. Tens of thousands of Panama City citizens have lost EVERYTHING. Their businesses, their jobs, schools, churches, hospitals, their homes, cars, and all their earthly possessions. Many are unaccounted for, and still trapped in their tree covered homes.

The effects of this storm are tragic and devastating. People in the area could be without power for months, without clean running water for weeks, and the only working cell carrier has been AT&T- which has been crippling for efficient and organized communication and coordination.

Every call with family members has involved tearfully describing the sadness and helplessness around them. In a call from our father, he said "the town you grew up in no longer exists, unrecognizable, and looks like a war zone" after spending the entire day cutting people out of their homes. Our mother told us a story of a woman who approached her with her son and asked for food because neither of them had eaten in 48 hours. These are just 2 of thousands of stories our community has to tell.

Needless to say, there is urgent and desperate need in our beloved hometown and we are unable to function here in DC, while so many we love and care for are suffering, and are in dire need of simple necessities that we mindlessly enjoy every single day.

Relief efforts are already underway, and neighbors are selflessly helping neighbors. First responders, volunteers, and even former residents are flooding in from all over the country to help, which has brought such hope and encouragement to the people of Bay County. HOWEVER, the journey is LONG from over and rebuilding will likely take years.

Our hope and our plea is that the people of DC and beyond would please realize and understand the gravity and urgency of the situation in the Panhandle and be moved towards action. We desire to fulfill specific and practical needs for those who need it MOST, along with those who are serving. Each day we are receiving a call from home with a list of needs for those who are either suffering and need things to live, or those who are serving and need the tools to do so.

On Friday evening, October the 19th, we will be loading a UHAUL full of the most recent determined needs (they are ever evolving day by day) paid for by this "Go fund me" page and drive straight to the heart of need, distribute, and get to work. Our ask on this page is for you to please consider generously donating.  Donations will be withdrawn into Stephanie's account and every single cent will be used to meet needs of those most affected by Hurricane Michael. Receipts will be uploaded & photos will be posted of what you have been able to provide. Of all of the small purchases you might mindlessly make this week, would you consider sacrificing one of them to donate to these efforts? The world is moving on and this news story is already forgotten by many, but the lives of our loved ones and those suffering in the Panhandle will be the headline in our hearts and minds for months to come.

Would you please donate literally any amount of money you have to spare ($5, $10, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000) and enable us to purchase practical and specific needs communicated to us by the leadership of Panama City we are in communication with, and our family who is serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to 400+ first responders and workers each day (and need so many supplies and meals donated for this).

Will you please donate?  Will you please share this page and raise awareness? THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance for your generosity, prayers, and for not ignoring this opportunity to serve those in need. We are so incredibly thankful.
