The Strength of an Amazing Man!

Donation protected
This is for my bestfriend and husband, Tom Duncan. He is 41 years old and we have 2 amazing children that will be turning 10 tomorrow. This should be a great family celebration, but sadly we received some life changing news.

Tom broke both of his legs after falling off of a roof in July of 2012. The damage was so severe, it took 11 hours of reconstructive surgery and almost 8 months of physical therapy to get him back on his feet.

About 6 months after this recovery process, he started having trouble walking and was in a lot of pain. He was referred to a specialty hospital; which was over 4 hours away.

Tom went through several different tests and had everything from X-rays to P.E.T. scans done, before the doctor could determine what was causing the problem. The doctor told Tom sections of his ankle and lower leg bone were deteriorating due to the extensive damage caused by the fall.

Tom started the long process of waiting for donor grafts, for each leg. He went through a 7 hour surgery in October of 2014 after receiving his first donor graft and he went through another 7 hour surgery in January of 2015 after receiving the second donor graft. He went through several months of physical therapy along with several trips to and from the specialty hospital.

Tom started having multiple infections in his right leg and was having a difficult time recovering. His doctor did exploratory surgery yesterday and discovered the donor graft did not survive. That's when his doctor recommended his right leg be amputated.

Tom has already been through 12 surgeries. Medical costs are increasing and will continue to grow as he has more stays in the hospital, additional surgeries, prosthetics, rehabilitation, and renovations made to our home and car to accommodate this life changing event.

I continue to work and our family helps us when they can, but it just isn't enough. So I am asking for the support and compassion of others. It breaks my heart to know what Tom is going to have to adjust to. He has been very strong through this entire thing and my hope is to alleviate the financial worry I know he has, so he can focus on his recovery.

Always enjoy the positives of life no matter how small because things can change in an instant.

Any help offered would be appreciated.

Thank you for your prayers and donations,

The Duncan Family
