Future Teacher Seeks Help Reaching Her Classroom

Hi there, that photo up above, that's me and that's my future travel gal Marley. It's been a year for us, for all of us truly, and our story starts at the close of 2019. Picture this, a fresh college senior, riding her bike through campus on a cool September morning, late to class. She takes a hard left on what seems a clear turn and collides with the Skateboarder in the wrong lane. One year later, she has two sets of surgery scars on her left knee, a solid history with physical therapy, and is still dreaming about teaching overseas. The girl that didn't give up, that's me.

My name is Naeema, I'm 22 years old, a recent college grad of Northern Arizona University, working part-time, and I will be a teacher. I was recently accepted into a teach abroad program in South Korea to teach English. So why teach overseas? The answer is one of many acronyms that go along with my dream job, Teaching English as a Foreign Language, or TEFL. My dream is to learn from my international classrooms and students, their traditions, their language, their values, all of it, and become a better teacher, as well as a better person for it.  To put it simply, I want to teach others as they teach me. I will become a globally aware educator that can then teach my community how to be globally educated and accepting.

My program started a few months ago, and I've been studying to achieve my TEFL certificate. The ship-off date is set for around February of next year, 2021 baby. I am believing that no matter what I will be on that 16-hour flight prepared to move my entire life with everything I need in two suitcases and a backpack. It turns out, your dreams have starting costs. They don't tell you that in the storybooks and trust me I know, I've read a lot of them studying English and Education. Anything you can do to help with the remaining cost of the program, the plane ticket, or the two-week government quarantine would be amazing. I am reaching out to all of you in the hopes that you can help jumpstart my journey.
