FUTURE TEACHER--PLEASE HELP ME GET MY DEGREE

COLLEGE SENIOR RAISING MONEY FOR TUITION

ONE YEAR LEFT, ONE SEMESTER to scrape together enough to cover so I can Graduate!!
FUTURE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER

My name is Annabella; I am 20 years old.  I have wanted to be a teacher since second grade. I had amazing teachers all throughout my years of elementary, middle school, and high school; outstanding educators I will NEVER forget.  Teachers who helped mold who I am today, who inspired me and encouraged me, hugged me, and held my hand. School for me was a safe place, a place of normalcy and love. It was a place I could leave all my worries and anxieties outside the front doors and walk through knowing I could count on the people inside. I focused on my learning, built a deep love of books, writing, and knowledge. As a child I felt different, I had a secret. My father had a disease; alcoholism. My dad was never there for me, he wasn’t there for my little sister or my mom. He checked out mentally and emotionally, he became a ghost in our lives, nonexistent, absent, and self-absorbed.  It only got worse after my little sister got diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of three. She was given 5 years to live. The impact her medical demands had on my life and still have on my life is beyond profound.

I disappeared too; I become invisible. I took a back seat to all of it even though my mom tried her very best to make me a priority.  When there is a medical emergency, it comes before anything else. My little sister’s illnesses always took the priority over every aspect of our lives. I became painfully shy and quiet. I escaped into the pages of books.

My mom suffered from depression, and anxiety from an incredible amount of stress, as she tried to manage our lives alone.

My sister’s brain tumor diagnosis wasn’t her only health problem.  Her illnesses grew to include an endless amount of conditions, rare afflictions, and other life-threatening syndromes. Hydrocephalus, Pituitary gigantism, precocious puberty, Neurofibromatosis, cardiac and kidney complications, growth hormone issues, vision loss, endocrinology, and gastroenterology complications as well. Nurses came to our house, sickness, and everything related to it, invaded every aspect of my life. My vocabulary grew to include words like chemotherapy, port, echocardiogram, sedation, anesthesia, intubation, numbing cream, VP-Shunt, heparin, flushes, hypertension, Sorbaview, infusions, ultrasound, pulse-oxy, stethoscope, sharps, sterile, neutropenic, NPO, and so much more. Life at school took me away from all of it, it was a distraction, a way to escape from my sisters’ tears, her screams of pain and agony, from watching her throwing up, from seeing her hair falling out, from her little body becoming a skeleton. My school was my haven; at school I didn’t have to see my sister fading away day after day, wondering if she was going to live or die.

I want to become the same kind of extraordinary, outstanding, and dependable teacher that I had in my life. I don’t know where I would be today without their care, concern, and love.

I WON’T WASTE YOUR INVESTMENT

My educational goals are first and foremost in my mind. I am a dedicated student. I am a strong, resilient young woman who is determined to make my community proud.

My mom has been a single parent for 8 years now. She works full-time but makes next to nothing. She struggles to keep steady work because my sister’s battle continues. It has been a very long and hard road for all of us.

At 16, my little sister is back on chemo for the 5th time. She just had her 39th surgery, 24th brain surgery (or 25th); she continues to have side effects and medical complications.  Her case is rare and complex. She now has six tumors in her brain, all inoperable. This is her life, but it’s mine too; chronic illness with reoccurring brain cancer/tumor growth, we are both strong and continue to fight together.

PLEASE HELP...

I was denied for another school loan, my mom doesn’t make enough as a Special Education Paraprofessional to qualify as a cosigner again. I don’t have any Grandparents or know of anyone else who could help me finish school financially. I currently work part-time off-campus at an International School, while I go to school.  I earned a 4-year partial academic excellence scholarship, as well as taken loans with the government and Sallie Mae.  I’m going out on a limb here and hoping there might be some former educators or parents who want to invest in a future teacher.

Thank you for anything you can give to help my dream of becoming a public-school teacher in the Fall of 2022 come true!!

I am extremely grateful for any and all blessings placed in my life,
Bella :)
