Mom's house flooded by Harvey
My name is Susan Bond and my family and I live in Cypress, TX. I am raising money for my mom Soon Yu to replace all her lost furniture from flood waters from hurricane Harvey. The funds will be collected by myself and given to her in one lump some as a surprise once the goal is reached hopefully! She is a very humble yet proud woman who wouldn't ask anyone for financial help but she needs it so I will. Here's her story:
My parents lost their business in Hurricane Katrina 12 years ago in New Orleans and had flooding in their townhome both without insurance. The business flooded in the 9th Ward when the levee broke. My father passed away in 2010 a few years after they moved to Houston. She lives alone in her home in Cypress, TX.
When Hurricane Harvey started getting serious she came to stay at our house. We NEVER expected or imagined flooding in this area. Just thought she might lose power and not be able to drive out due to high water on the streets. On August 28th my husband Tim kayaked to her house which is about three miles south to find her house full of water. She doesn't have flood insurance as most people don't in this area since flooding to this degree is unheard of. As you all have heard this Hurricane brought an unprecedented amount of rain. Luckily my sister and I didn't get water in our houses though it was close. But my mom has lost all her furniture once again.
She would never ask for help because she is a very proud and strong woman but I know many people are generous and want to help those who have lost to Hurricane Harvey. So I've started this find to help her at least buy new furniture once we've replaced flooring and dry wall. My siblings and I will donate time for repairs and finances for new flooring and walls. Currently she is playing a card game of war with my four year old passing time and trying not to think too much about the losses.
