A dog named Ruff became a "Trooper"

Donation protected

Here is a story on how a dog named Ruff, became a "Trooper."

On Saturday, August 12th, Fur and Tails Rescue, LLC Owner, Carri Wagner, received a call from Haven on Earth Animal League Inc. (HEAL) regarding an injured dog, Trooper (formerly named as Ruff). HEAL had brought him to Jennifer at The Gulf Coast Humane Society who ran x-rays and graciously provided the results to Carri. It was determined Trooper suffered multiple injuries including a broken leg that resulted from significant trauma (cause is unknown) and required Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery. Carri made countless calls to veterinarians all over Florida, most of who were out of town for a convention.  Luckily she made contact with Dr. Shewmaker at Shewmaker Animal Hospital in Labelle, Florida who agreed to the surgery. Upon evaluation, it was also found that Trooper is also heartworm positive and will need treatment. Earlier this week Dr. Shewmaker performed the surgery and called Carri with the good news, that Trooper survived surgery. She was still searching for a foster home for him to be placed in and Dr. Shewmaker offered to board Trooper at his animal hospital until an appropriate proper foster care could be arranged. Carri will be fostering Trooper to make sure he receives the best care during his recovery.
Here is a picture of Trooper after surgery and on his way home:

Our hearts go out to any animal in need, but what brings this closer to home was that Trooper was taken from the same property another dog, Misty, was taken from back in April 2017.  She was found in poor condition and very pregnant, delivering 10 puppies just days after settling at the rescue.  Miraculously 8 of the 10 puppies survived and Misty has been making a wonderful recovery. It was discovered that Trooper was the father of the litter of puppies that Misty delivered and now the new proud parents of these adorable furbabies want to rally together with the support of the community and help nurse Trooper back to health.

Here is a picture of Misty who had puppies fathered by Trooper:

As with most medically involved rescues, Trooper's medical expenses are adding up and Carri has contributed much of her own personal savings to fund his care. He will require continued monitoring, treatment, and medication to care for his leg as well as an extensive Heartworm treatment.

Donations will go directly to Fur and Tails Rescue to fund the medical bills for Trooper. If you are unable to contribute a donation, please share with your family and friends as every little bit will help greatly.

Please check back for updates on Trooper recovery!

Kindly,
Kristin Peras, owner of Maebelle who came from the litter of Misty and Trooper.
