<div>Unsere Nichte Kathi aus Staudach-Egerndach war ein fröhliches, lebendiges Mädchen mit blonden Locken und einem Lachen, das Herzen öffnete. Doch vor sieben Jahren, im Alter von nur 1,5 Jahren, veränderte eine Gehirnentzündung (Enzephalitis) ihr Leben – und das ihrer Familie – von Grund auf. Dieser Schicksalstag jährt sich in diesen Tagen zum siebten Mal. Heute ist Kathi acht Jahre alt.

<div>Seitdem ist sie schwer beeinträchtigt. Sie kann nicht sprechen, nicht essen, nicht laufen. Aber sie spürt Liebe. Und sie kämpft. Jeden Tag.

<div>Ihre Familie – unsere Schwester Evi, ihr Mann Andi und die 16-jährige Tochter Anna – lebt seither in einem Ausnahmezustand. Rund um die Uhr kümmern sie sich um Kathi mit unermüdlicher Hingabe, Liebe und Kraft. Die Familie tut alles, um Kathi ein Stück Lebensqualität zurückzugeben. Jeder noch so kleine Fortschritt ist ein Triumph. Ein Lächeln von Kathi ist unbezahlbar.

<div>Neben den gesundheitlichen Sorgen kommen nun auch finanzielle Herausforderungen hinzu, denn es steht ein großer Schritt bevor: Das Haus soll endlich behindertengerecht umgebaut werden. Derzeit lebt die Familie zu viert auf engem Raum und die Kosten für den Umbau, der auf Kathis Bedürfnisse abgestimmt sein soll, sind enorm.
