On June 2nd, 2013, the body of my father Gordon Gibson was found on the sidewalk in Seattle, Washington. Although I had not spoken to my father in 4 years, as next of kin, the entire cost of his arrangements fall to me. I am up to the mental and emotional task of taking care of his apartment, arranging his funeral and giving his memorial service (all out of state), but I can't do it alone.
I have solicited family members for financial help, but they are not able to provide assistance. Additionally, my father lived in a low-income senior facility and worked for a non-profit for the blind, so I can't rely on money he left behind.
As a student, with 2 part time jobs, I am overwhelmed by both grief, and the weight of fiscal responsibility. However, it is with much strength and love that I request financial support from my community. ANYTHING you are able to give is an act of kindness. If donating money is not an option for you, there are others ways to help out. One great way is to spread the word. Re-post & share on Facebook, send e-mails, tell friends.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
