“I trudged through the doors of my house after a long school day to find her big bags plopped on the corner of the stairs, the way she did every week. I was excited to greet her after a week or two of not seeing her. The sounds of rushing water from the sink filled the air and I knew it was her. I came behind her, gave her a bear hug, and with that she faced me with a smile and gave me a soft kiss on the cheek in return.
That was the last time I saw my grandmother. I never got to say goodbye that night she left.”
This final memory is what my eldest daughter will hold on to of her grandmother.
On November 6, 2019 around 2:30pm, my mother Abigail, was struck by a pick up truck as she was crossing the street on her way back home. The impact was so strong, that she left the world feeling no pain, and passed away instantly.
She fought through several illnesses such as Sepsis, Lupus and Renal Failure that we never thought this would be the way she’d go.
With everything going on in her life, she still managed to find time for us as a family, especially her grandchildren- my children. Visiting every weekend baring gifts for them and waking up early to make them breakfast.
This tragedy has happened so quickly that it is impossible for us to pull up a vast amount of money for a funeral on such a short notice.
On behalf of Abigail, we ask for help in giving her the goodbye she deserves.
