Funeral: Kosmas Kosmakos

If you knew anything our father it was that he was a simple man. He drove the same 1992 black civic Honda for years because like he would say, “it gets me from A to B.” His want was little but his generosity was great. He lived for his family working 365 days a year, 7 days a week – only taking off for the occasional baptism, wedding, or funeral. Holidays were spent working together as a family providing love through meals for many.

His love for his family was venerated and boundless. He defined “immediate family” to not only his five children and loving wife, but to his brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, and cousins both close and distant. However, family did not stop there. Close friends and customers were celebrated and embraced. His joy and life work came from bringing people together. Hospitality was his trade, but giving was his nature.

Laconic and philotimos – that is how we would describe our father. Laconic, a man using few works with great influence. Philotimos, a love for honor and virtue. Pride in oneself, pride in family, pride in community, and doing the right thing – giving meaning to life that stretches far beyond himself.

Now, we bury our father but breathe life into his legacy. A legacy that speaks from the heart of his children and wife and the hearts of those that were touched by his embrace. Although rich in love, the last few years were difficult for our family financially. It is never easy to ask for a helping hand, but many have expressed an eagerness to help our family in this time of need. If you would like to donate to help with preparation and funeral costs please feel free to do so here. Everyone’s love and generosity has been overwhelming and we truly thank you from our hearts.

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake. Even though I walk
through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff,
they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen"
