There is a new angel in heaven. Joey (Newton) Church passed away in hospital in Belleville, Ontario on Thursday, December 13 after 7 years of serious illness.
As Joey was loved by so many people she touched, we hope friends and family will help financially support Joey's final wishes for cremation and for a summertime party with fireworks to remember her.
In the summer of 2011, unexplained symptoms made it impossible for Joey, then only 57, to continue her career as a retail manager. Her illness worsened, and in May 2012 she was admitted for what would be over 2 months in hospital, including 7 weeks in the intensive care unit, much of that on life support.
The prolonged period in ICU robbed her of most of her muscle mass, and living in a rural area, being unable to drive herself, she remained in a weakened and fragile state until her death this week. The last two years were horrible for Joey, after she was diagnosed with incurable liver failure.
The physical and emotional toll of these years was so hard on Joey and Geoff, but so was the effect on their finances. Geoff's career as a realtor demands many hours, flexibility and the ongoing expenses of his license, brokerage fees, and business insurance. Being the devoted husband that he his, Geoff devoted so much time and energy to Joey's care and medical appointments. At the same time, the last 12 months saw an over 40% decrease in sales in his region.
It would mean so much if you could remember Joey, her vibrant spirit and the love she gave so freely, by contributing towards her cremation and memorial celebration. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your help.
