Funeral expenses for Janet Brougher

The world has lost an incredible woman.
On Tuesday, July 25, Janet Brougher had scheduled surgery to remove kidney stones. Although "elective surgery," there wasn't much choice in removing the >1.5in stone. The removal went very well, and the surgeon was happy with the results. In Janet's condition, with Parkinson's Disease, she was aware of the risks, and understood the possibility of having to be on a ventilator and feeding tube, during recovery, and that was the case. Over that first night, she had gone septic. On Wednesday, Jan was able to visually track us (while holding her eyes open for her), and respond by squeezing our hands, and wiggling her toes. On Thursday, her blood pressure continued to be a problem, and she was fighting a high fever. They conducted a nasal swab, which tested positive for MRSA. Previously responsive while non-sedated, she was not able to respond for two days. While kept comfortable, the machines were doing almost all the work. Janny did not want to "live" like that, nor waste efforts and resources on a situation that would not be recoverable. With heavy hearts, we respected those wishes, and removed the life-support systems this morning on July 29, 2017. If she was still present, she certainly was in no pain, and passed quickly and peacefully.
Janny was possibly the strongest, toughest, and most genuinely good, kind, and giving person I have ever, and probably will ever, know. An infection of that nature would have been difficult to overcome by an otherwise healthy person, and she was not that. Always selfless, it was her wish to donate her organs, as well as give her brain for scientific research. Unfortunately, the infection didn't allow that. She always wanted to help others.
Jan loved people - from family, to the customers at her beauty shop for all those years, to my friends, or even a stranger. She was always willing to be anyone's "spare mom," ready to feed anyone who came into our house, talk about anything with anybody, or just simply listen. Janet was always friendly, offering a smile to everyone. Her positivity showed through her time in the nursing home this past year, talking to everyone (even if they couldn't hear or understand her softened voice), and relishing the small victories in what she was able to accomplish, in her limited capacity. She always made the most of what she was given. I couldn't be more proud of her and her life, and hope I can make her proud of mine as well. I hope she knows all that she did for everyone was appreciated, and she will not be forgotten.
My mother was a brave, wonderful, amazing woman. Even if you only met her once, you knew that, too.
My family thanks everyone for all the well-wishes, positive thoughts, and prayers over the last several days, and those to come.
Janet's wishes were simple - she had requested to be cremated, have a funeral mass in her memorial, and be buried among her family that had gone before her.
Unfortunately, she had no life insurance at her time of passing. While her arrangements will be as modest as she had wanted, my father and I do not currently have the readily-available assets needed for my mom's funeral expenses. My dad will soon begin the process to sell their house, in order to offset these costs. Any charitable contributions in the meantime would be deeply and sincerely appreciated, as we lay this amazing soul to rest.
There will be no funeral home visitation. Friends and family are welcome to a funeral mass (details TBD). Private inurnment will be in St. Florian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation at www.pdf.org.

Mum, like your mom told you, and you told me, "You're gonna miss me, when I'm gone," and you're right. I'll never be the same, but I thank you for making me the man I am. You'll never really be gone, because I'm a part of you.
