Funeral Expenses for Denise Blumberg

Donation protected
Our Aunt, Denise Blumberg has been called home to her Creator. She suffered a major heart attack two weeks ago on Tuesday, May 14th. She was not taken to the cath lab until the next morning, where the doctors at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE told us that Denise had nearly a complete blockage of the arteries in her heart. They attempted to place a stent that morning (Wednesday, May 15th), however they were unsuccessful. Instead, a balloon pump was placed to reduce the workload and stress on her heart. Ultimately though, we were told that this would only help temporarily and her only option would be open heart surgery to try to restore some blood flow and further reduce the workload of her heart. However, since her health was declining quickly, the doctors at Bergan felt they would need to transfer her to a surgical team who would be willing to perform such a high risk procedure. She also had a history of renal failure and had been doing dialysis three times weekly for the past several years.

Later that evening (Wednesday, May 15th), she was transferred to Nebraska Medicine Hospital in Omaha, NE where the surgical team wanted to try taking her to cath lab once more to see if they could place a stent. This procedure was once again unsuccessful and they reported that she had approximately 95% of her heart blocked. We were told that she would be a candidate for open heart surgery in 1 week, which would allow her more time to build up her strength and become prepared for such a high risk surgery.

Over the next 1 week, Denise had a pacemaker placed and had continuous dialysis running 24/7. Her treatment plan changed daily depending on her status, which continued to decline. She eventually was told she would no longer be a candidate for open heart surgery and her only options would be: 1) Go home on hospice and eventually succumb to her illnesses OR 2) Attempt a third heart cath, but this time approaching the left side of her heart, as they failed stenting the right side of her heart twice before. Her doctors also said that the right side of her heart was “dead anyway. “ They said doing this procedure would also be high risk, but could potentially provide her with more time here with her family. Being the fighter she was, Denise of course opted to have surgery and she said that if she dies, she at least will have “gone out fighting.”

Wednesday, May 22nd, only 1 day prior to her scheduled surgery, Denise was called home. She went quickly and the doctors were unable to revive her. We know that she is in a better place and is dancing with the Lord and his Angels. However, now we are stuck with the reality of not being able to hold her hand or feel her embrace. We can’t wait for the day when we will again be reunited.

Denise did not have life insurance and her death comes less than 2 months from burying our grandfather (Denise’s father) who also had no life insurance. We ask that if you are able, you might prayerfully consider donating something to go towards the cost of her funeral and headstone. She leaves behind her daughter, partner, sister, brother, nieces, nephews, and many other family members. We greatly appreciate the time you have taken to read this and thank you for anything that you might be able to offer. God Bless each and every one of you!

Denise will be buried this Sunday, June 2nd at 10 a.m. She will be put to rest at Cedardale Cemetery in Papillion, NE (Cemetery Rd. Papillion, NE 68046).
