Funeral Bills 5000 miles from Home
Johnson is my friend. I met Johnson when he was studying broadcast journalism at the University of Nouakchott, Mauritania. At that time I was working out of the US Embassy. Nowadays Johnson is an immigrant (like me) - he lives in New York. We have been friends for almost twenty years.
Life keeps going and doesn't wait for dreams and ideas. The other day, Johnson gave me a call. There's a problem.
Johnson's mother died last week - in his arms, at his place in Queens. Johnson needs money to pay the bills at the morgue where they kept her body, and to pay the airline that flew her body back to Africa - about $4000, all told. He had nowhere to turn to so he called me. I'm fortunate because I've got work and I sent him some cash.
I am asking for donations. This is for Ms. Eliza de Medeiros, Johnson's mother, to take care of the funeral and related expenses. The whole story is on my blog HERE
That's where it's at right now. I thank you, and Johnson thanks you.
