<div>On August 12th, a drunk driver hit my sister, Elyse, and her boyfriend Darek on their way home from Sister Lakes. Unfortunately, Darek's life was taken much too early, and he did not make it. Darek was an amazing human that genuinely made a positive impact on everyone he came across. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He meant the world to Elyse -- the two had been inseparable since they met in 2016. They were truly best friends and created for one another.

<div>From the mercy of God, Elyse survived the accident. Most likely because of the helmet Darek told her to put on. She was found in critical condition and immediately airlifted to Bronson Hospital. She had to have her lower left leg amputated and will have several more surgeries going forward. She will also have to overcome physical therapy and potential complications for years to come. There is a very long road ahead of her.
