Fund the Faught Fieldhouse

In 2013, the Algoma District School Board literally broke new ground with the construction of the first artificial turf field in Sault Ste. Marie. The field was built as part of the new school construction for Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School and has since been widely used by schools and community groups of all ages from across the city. A community fundraising project has been approved by the Board and is now underway for a community fieldhouse to be built on the site, honouring the memory of Sgt. John Faught, former student and football player of Bawating Collegiate and Vocational Secondary School. Sgt John Faught was killed on January 16, 2010 in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan.

The Faught Fieldhouse will provide the community with a facility that will accommodate change rooms, public washrooms, ticket booth and a concession, ensuring a state-of-the-art complex that can be used to host high-level competitions as well as increased community league play.

The John Faught Field House Fundraising Committee is excited to be leading this community project and encourages the entire community to get behind them to show their generosity. “This project will be a great addition to the recreational facilities in our community and we look forward to working on a project that has such a special affiliation with the Faught family,” said Seth Cond, Chair of the Committee.

"Our goal to build the Faught Fieldhouse adjacent to Sault Ste. Marie's first artificial turf field is an opportunity to provide the community with a first class facility that will benefit the many user groups and patrons who access the field. Fallen soldier, Sergeant John Faught, exemplified the characteristics that we hope to see in student athletes; commitment, courage, dedication, loyalty and perseverance. We are proud to honour John Faught on the same grounds where as a high school football player he competed with his Bawating teammates. Thank you for supporting the construction of the Faught Fieldhouse," said Jan Marrelli, Principal of Superior Heights.
