My dream of becoming an organic farmer is coming true!
In February, a friend and I wrote a proposal to take over unit #3 at Haliburton Community Organic Farms next January. To be a grower there is a dream I have had since visiting the farm in 2010 with UVIC.
In order to pay for the amazing infrastructure on the ~0.86 acre site I am asking for some help from my friends, family and community. Start up costs for the big greenhouse, the irrigation system, perennials, seeds and tools comes to about $10,000. I have started sourcing what I need and it is getting expensive!! I'm concerned as to how to cover the cost of living next year as I am just getting on my feet. My whole heart and soul are going into this (and possibly all the money I have). Community supported, small-scale, ecologically sustainable farming is a passion of mine and I believe it's our future. Our delicious future!
