Friends, former classmates, acquaintances, fellow Americans, and to anyone looking for a good cause to donate to, please read the following GoFundMe request and consider donating.
My longtime friend, Wanda Cruz, resides in Puerto Rico with her daughter. As we all know the island has been devastated by a hurricane and many are still without power, water, and basic essentials for life. I reached out to Wanda a few days ago to ask her if there was anything I could do for her, anything at all, including providing financial aid. Her initial response was the following:
"Wow..thank you so much. Things are a bit difficult but we are doing ok. It is a long road to recovery but for now we are ok. Any changes I will let you know. Thank you...thank you. No power or running water and cell service is super limited."
I was not super convinced that all was ok but was hopeful that if she needed something that she would not be afraid to ask. A day later she responded with this and my heart broke for her and I understand how hard it is to ask for help when you truly need it. This was what she wrote:
"At work now and I have to say that I cried all the way here after seeing your message. Very humbled by the gesture. Putting my pride aside, any financial help would be much appreciated. Everything at the moment is cash and banks are not operating fully. Truth be told, I am embarrassed to even mention it. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Will contact you again when I am able. Than you SO very much."
Wanda is a hard-working, single mom of one beautiful daughter. So, as if life isn't difficult enough then adding the tribulations of dealing with a natural disaster and having limited resources, I can not imagine.
Please consider donating to Wanda and her daughter. I know there is so much chaos in this world and so many causes and relief efforts to donate to but I am choosing to donate to her and I truly hope you do to.
If you are unfamiliar with this process, just to let you know that when you donate she will have access to any donations immediately and will be able to set up a transfer into her bank account which she will receive in 3-5 business days. I've donated on this platform before and was never entirely sure how it worked until I researched setting this up for her. I know sometimes understanding the process may help some feel better about donating.
