Mavericks battle with cancer

Donation protected
Many of you may not be aware, but our dear friends Wes and Cayla Robinson are going through an unimaginable experience. Their son Maverick was recently diagnosed, at only 17 months old, with a large cancerous brain tumour. His story is one of courage, of love, of faith, and of an intensely fierce desire to live his life.

Little Mavericks story, stared back in May, when he became ill and was admitted to the Stollery children’s hospital in Edmonton. Maverick wasn’t eating or drinking properly, he was dehydrated and wasn’t himself. From May until August, Maverick has been in and out of the hospital several times undergoing multiple tests to determine his illness. Over the course of this time he had lost about 6 pounds, was weak and unable to walk anymore.

On August 3, Little Maverick had been in hospital for several days already undergoing multiple tests again, when his parents were given the news. After days of tests, Doctors have found that Maverick has a brain tumour comparable in size with a Christmas orange, that has pushed the brain stem to the side and surrounded the main artery in his brain. This cancerous tumour will require an extensive surgery to try and be removed.

Nothing could have prepared them for the moment the doctor sat them down and gave them the diagnosis. That night was long and full of tears, yet Wes and Cayla have been incredibly strong for their family. Their strength of character, spirited personality, and positive attitude is an inspiration for all of us.

While it has been challenging and difficult thus far, Wes and Cayla have done an amazing job at staying strong and keeping day-to-day life as normal as possible for their sweet Maverick and his older brother Wyatt, who will be turning four soon. Cayla is the epitome of super-mom, super-wife and super support system all wrapped into one person. She continues to work full time, running her day home, caring for a group of Maverick and Wyatt’s friends, all while being Mavericks shadow throughout. And Wes is the absolute *best* dad. We are all in awe of what Wes and Cayla have endured and accomplished.

Fighting cancer is a full time job. Cancer was never in the budget. We are helping raise money for our dear friends, so they can be by their child’s side during this battle.

We are sharing this personal story with you as we are reaching out to all of Wes and Cayla’s friends, all of our friends and family members, and every person whose heart this story has touched.

The last thing this family needs to be worrying about right now is how to make ends meet.

Please help us support Wes, Cayla, little Maverick and Wyatt  by contributing whatever you can. Every little bit helps. They have a long road ahead, and will be needing our ongoing support. Please share widely.
