Funds for Judy's Care

Don protégé
As many of you know, I have recently taken my mother into my house here in New Orleans. It was not safe for her to stay in her home in Opelika, Alabama without care.
I have to say that it is a blessing to have her here, and her health and mental state has really improved beyond belief. I took her to the hospital June 8, and she was near death (really). I went there for a week, at first a week and a half, at a time, every other week, for about 2 months. It would not have even been possible if not for Dana Wiley Gafford and her husband Trey Gafford. If it weren't for them, I would be in the mental ward now.I lost my highest paying gig doing this, but that says more about the idiot band leader and I am happy to not be playing with someone like that. I fought her insurance company, crappy "case workers," who wanted me to give up and considered her as down for the count, crappy sitters, vulture "sitter care" companies and vulture "life alert"-type companies who reallly were terrible (VRI, to be exact). My sibling declared she was leaving August 8, despite our pleading to stay another 2 weeks so I could maybe prepare my house with construction, walk-in shower, grab bars, steps with railings, etc. I did most of the cleaning of their house, and had to teach the dummies how to clean, and the "cleaning" bill was still $1K.
Meanwhile, I was paying her bills, and trying to pay mine.
As y'all know, I am a full-time musician, and when us musicians can't make it, we don't get paid. This happened right at the beginning of the slow summer months.
Her assets are in a precarious state, because of the 5-year look-back period of Medicaid in case she needs to go to a nursing facility. Those of you who know about this know. Those of y'all who don't, look it up, and have your parents ' ASSETS put in your name NOW. It's way more complicated than you think.
I want to tell everyone that my former band, with whom I haven't played in 21 years, in Wichita, Kansas, the very best "rock" band I have ever been a part of, has taken it upon himself (Andrew Andrew William Coss) to throw a benefit for my mother's care. We are drowning in debt and sitter and medical costs. At least until we can sell her assets safely, for her care, without complications from the federal government.
I am absolutely blown away that anyone wants to help, and I am brought to tears that my musician family in Wichita, Kansas is doing a live broadcast benefit.
Me and Mom just need to get our heads above water for a minute.
I am VERY uncomfortable with a "go-fund-me"-type thing for me in any way. But there will be one. God bless you and my mother.
