Funds and raising awareness for Mike

Donation protected

Our friend Mike was given the news that no one wants to hear, he was sadly diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in his oesophagus and given a prognosis of 12 months to live. This is obviously a big shock to Mike and all his loved ones and is not something we thought would happen at the age of twenty-nine. We want to try and raise funds so Mike can enjoy the time that he has left with his family and friends without worrying about financial pressures.
Mike would also like to share his story far and wide to try and raise more awareness of adenocarcinoma, his goal is to help at least one person and to ensure that they can get tested in time to save their life.

Around 9,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer each year some signs and symptoms to look out for are:
> Difficulty swallowing (due to feeling food is sticking to chest or throat)
> Food coming back up (regurgitation)
>Weight Loss
> Pain in chest or back
> Pain in throat or chest when swallowing
> Heartburn / indigestion
These symptoms can be related to other conditions, but it is always important to get checked out by your GP or a specialist.

Mike’s symptoms started around a year ago where he was experiencing heartburn and indigestion, the doctor prescribed him some tablets which seemed to ‘cure’ his symptoms. Over the year he lived a normal life symptom-free until around a month ago where he started having difficulties swallowing. It got to the point where he couldn’t swallow at all and was rushed to Chester hospital's A+E department, where after days of tests he was fitted with a nasogastric tube and then given this horrible diagnosis. Following a scan in Liverpool, we found out that his cancer had spread to his lymph nodes, stomach, and spine.

This is such a difficult and heartbreaking thing to write and we never thought we’d be in this position, but we want Mike to be remembered as the caring, loving man that he is. Mike has always gone above and beyond for everyone else in his life and always been such a selfless person, an example of this would be how Mike coached young children and taught them to play football in his spare time.

We want the time that he has left to be full of amazing memories and any support towards this cause would be greatly appreciated.
