Fundraising for mama

Donation protected

This page was originally set up in order to raise funds to send my mother to a specialist clinic to treat her terminal cancer. Unfortunately we did not get the chance to do this.

Some of you are already aware that sadly my mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in the early hours of Sunday morning. Unfortunately this means that the money that we have raised cannot go to the cause we had hoped. In her final days, we spoke to mum about where she would like the money to go if it were not to be used as planned. She answered immediately - Maggie's Cancer Care Centres (www.maggiescentres.org). Maggie's has been a huge part of mum's journey with cancer; offering her support, advice and sometimes simply somewhere to go to relax when she needed a break. She always talked about the support they had provided, as well as the friends she had made there and the fun she had when she popped in. She even dragged me and my brother along with her a couple of times and I saw for myself how welcoming and pleasant the centre was. Through Maggie's she knew exactly what to expect when she started Chemotherapy; they gave her information about wigs, taught her how to wear head scarves, gave her advice on make-up and how to dress as well as simply discussing the changes that would occur as the chemotherapy started to affect the way that she looked and felt. She even went on a creative writing course through Maggie's. I could go on but I hope that I have conveyed some of what this charity meant to my mum.

As long as there are no objections, we would like to follow mum's wishes and donate the funds to the Maggie's Cancer Care Centres. Of course we are willing to refund any donations that have been made if you are not happy with this decision, just let me know if this is the case and I will send your money back straight away. Further, any donations or offers of services that have been made for the fundraising event can also be returned if the donor chooses.

However, the fundraising day on the 15th December will still be taking place with all proceeds going to mum's chosen charity and the event will be taking place in her memory. I would like to let you all know how overwhelmed mum was when we told her how much money had been raised for her so far. She really did not expect the level of support that she has received and she was so pleased and it certainly raised a smile or two as we kept updating her in the final days. We are so grateful to all of you for that. Thank you for everything that you have given.
