Missionary Choi in Bolivia

Donation protected
My good friend Joanna Park and her husband Yanghoo Choi are missionaries in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Missionary Choi has been serving the community from 1989 with a single mission: to share the Gospel. Without a sponsoring church or family, he has relied solely on God and His blessings to build a community that worship and serves God as well as a church to worship together in. This amazing person and my friend Joanna who rarely ask for help need your compassion today.

Starting on June 15th, Missionary Choi had high fevers and slight trouble with breathing. He and Joanna decided to wait it out until this past Sunday when his fever spiked and his trouble with breathing became worse. By the grace of God, Missionary Choi does not have Covid-19 but has pneumonia.

Going to the hospital in Bolivia is as follows: the patient pays $5000 deposit and another $1500-2000 per day when admitted in the hospital while medicine costs extra. Without the initial $5000, the hospital will not admit the patient. And with the church having been closed for four months due to the Coronavirus, the missionary has no way to pay for his hospital fees.

Without the financial funds to get proper medical attention at a hospital, they had no choice but to resort to having a doctor visit in the morning, a nurse in the afternoon, and another doctor in the evening. With each visit, the missionaries have to pay a total of $500. Because the medical staff is often late, the missionaries found their own way of getting an oxygen tank that is $30 to fill the tank each day. Medicine that costs $150-200 daily is also difficult to procure; church members have to visit multiple pharmacies to get the right medicine, sometimes leaving at 11 AM and returning at 8 PM. Every day by the grace of God, they have been able managed to pay the required $1000 in order to get medical attention in their own home.

Currently, Missionary Choi no longer has a fever but has immense trouble breathing. His right lung is not working (according to the doctor) and his smaller left lung is breathing at 50% capacity. And because of the pain, he cannot lie down, sit up, or find a comfortable position, resulting in many sleepless days and nights. During the past six days, today he got an hour of sleep for the first time.

The doctor initially stated that the missionary would get better in five days but six days have already passed by without any significant improvement. Now the doctor is saying that it will be another 5-7 days before the missionary gets better from PNEUMONIA. This is an URGENT situation as they no longer have any funds in their savings to pay for the next 5-7 days of medical attention.

I ask that if at any point your heart has been moved in some way that you help Joanna and Yanghoo with the medical costs. An offering in any amount will be greatly appreciated. If you cannot offer in money, then please join us in prayer for the full recovery of Missionary Choi.

Thank you. God bless.
