Fundraiser for THE ROAD BACK

Tax deductible
Hello!

I am excited to share with you that I’m embarking on a new, creative adventure.

After a two year wait (for obvious reasons), I will be performing the solo show that I wrote, THE ROAD BACK, in the spring of 2022, for a limited four-week run at The Chain Theater at in midtown Manhattan.

My longtime collaborator, Padraic Lillis, is directing.

I will be producing the the play via my nonprofit, Chrysalis Theatre Company.

The Road Back is a very personal story about my journey into and out of a severe clinical depression that I experienced 12 years ago.

With humor and honesty, I tell the story of the journey that transformed my life for the better, led me down a road of discovery to a new, more enlightened sense of self, and resulted in my becoming a peer counselor for others who suffer from mood disorders.

As a theater artist, my goal is that THE ROAD BACK will be an inspiring story for anyone who struggles with depression or has a friend or family member who struggles with it.

  • Before the pandemic, nearly one in 10 U.S. adults had depression, and the rate was almost twice as high for women as men.

  • During the pandemic, about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. have reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder,

  • Estimates suggest that only half of people with mental illnesses receive treatment.

Despite some progress in recent years, stigma around depression and mental illness still exists in our society.

One of the best ways to counter stigma is to create a dialogue. Theater does this in an immediate and powerful way. Theater creates empathy. It can transform our hearts and minds. Dialogue can save people’s lives.

A goal that I have for this show is to make sure that I directly reach out to the mental health community in New York City:

  • people in recovery
  • families of those who are struggling
  • those who have struggled in the past

This is the kind of theater I love to create--theater that can lead to real change.

I need your help to bring my story to the stage. Independent, personal art is made possible by the generous support of individuals like you.

Supporting mental health organizations is important. Supporting art about mental health is just as important.

Thanks to a recent large donation, my new goal is to raise $10,500 via private donations out of a $30,000 budget. I am applying for grants to cover the remainder of the production costs.

All donations are 100% tax deductible. Chrysalis Theatre Company is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization.

I couldn’t reach these audiences and share this message of hope without you.

Thank you for being on my team and taking this journey with me.

With Gratitude,

Adina
