Fundraiser for Susan McLaughlin

Hi all,
As you know, the last five weeks have been a roller coaster. In early October, Susan contracted Covid-19. In a matter of a few short days, she was flown to Billings, and placed on a ventilator, and remained sedated and on the vent, for nearly three weeks. Thankfully, our girl is a fighter, like no other. While on the ventilator, she faced some complications, that she managed to overcome, with only minor side effects. Jill came to Montana, and stayed for a little over a week, while she and Patrick stayed in constant contact with doctors, nurses, and case managers. Jill flew back home, and went straight back to work. At the end of October, the Covid precautions were lifted, and Patrick was able to go see Susan for the first time, after an entire month. Jill was back in Montana the next day. Shortly after, Susan finally came off the ventilator!! She was moved out of ICU the the following day, and stayed at Saint Vincent's to receive care in the step down unit, until we were able to bring her home, to Wheatland Memorial, for her continuing care. Her progress has been, honestly, nothing short of miraculous. She is speaking, she is healing, and she remains to be the Susan that we all know and love. However, there is a long road ahead. Susan has a lot of physical therapy ahead of her, to gain her strength back, and is still on a nasal cannula, and continues to need to be on oxygen, for the time being. (SO much better than that ventilator though!!) We all know how expensive medical bills can be, and there isn't a clear picture of what will be covered as of now. On top of the medical costs, the regular bills continue to come in, and Susan has been off work, since the beginning of October. There really isn't a clear timeline as to when she will be able to be healthy enough to be back to work, but it is safe to say, it is going to be quite a while. I have had so many generous people ask what they can do to help, and I can't imagine how many of you have reached out to Jill and Patrick, so I came to the idea, that perhaps, this was the best way to offer help the the McLaughlin family. Outside of Susan's miraculous and courageous fight with this awful virus, Patrick, who is in school to become a Physician Assistant, and Jill, who lives in Nevada, works as a nurse, and is carrying her first baby, have shown courage, grit, managed Susan's constant care needs, all while balancing their own lives with grace I can not even begin to explain in adequate words. I want to help lift some burdens for the family, so I decided to do so, the only way I could think of. If you have a little extra to help out, I know it would be greatly appreciated by myself, Patrick, Jill, Grandpa Dick, and Susan. Thank you to all who have agonized along side the family, sent prayers, hope, and all the good vibes into the universe for the family. Your kindness and love has been so appreciated in this time of the unknown. I will continue to update, as they come in. Thank you again, Jayme Colby, and the McLaughlin family.
