Dear Family & Friends,
Early Monday morning, November 13th, Steph complained of a severe headache and was having trouble saying certain words. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital where they determined she suffered a stroke. As one would expect this is a very overwhelming time for Steph and her family, but all anticipate that she will make a full recovery. The stroke only affected the left side of her brain (where the speech and cognition area of the brain reside); NOT the right side of the brain (where the mobility and feeling area of the brain reside). Steph has no current paralysis or numbness and she is able to move and feel as normal. She has full cognitive understanding, can speak and carry on a conversation, and recognizes people and familiar things. The stroke has only had an effect on her speech and the ability to express what she is thinking. The medical term is 'expressive aphasia’.
She is in great spirits and understands the challenge ahead as she works with therapists to heal. The process will take time - days, weeks, or even months. Despite her wanting to go back to regular routine and not have people fuss over her, she will not be able to work indefinitely. Sounds like Steph right?? SO, on behalf of her closest friends and work colleagues, we created a fundraiser to cover everyday living expenses while she continues to heal and give her the much needed stress-free time to heal and not worry about working. All funds will go directly to Steph. In lieu of flowers, the cost of a meal or anything else you might offer, please instead give to this fund so Steph can get back to her norm. Any amount is appreciated and no contribution too small.

ABOUT STEPH:
A long-time resident of San Diego, Steph is a dedicated and proud mother of two - she has a young-adult daughter, Natalie, who studies at UC Davis and an adult son, Beau, who works and resides in San Diego. Steph has spent her life building her career and business as a talented and experienced esthetician, specializing in skin care and brow artistry. When not shaping eyebrows or helping us all look years younger, she is re-shaping bodies and minds as a fitness instructor at The Bar Method in Liberty Station. Steph lights up any room with her infectious smile and hilarious sense of humor. Anyone that knows Steph admires her mental and physical fortitude, unprecedented work ethic, endless compassion for others, positive attitude, dedication to family...and let’s not forget rocking arms & abs!
