<div>In mid September, Sam started to get sick, leading to now weeks of illness including severe body pain, headaches, fever, and exhaustion.
</div>

<div>After five days and nights in the hospital, we now know that Sam's case of meningitis (inflammation of the membranes surrounding the spinal cord and brain) was West Nile Virus meningitis. For Sam this has meant, in addition to the above symptoms, negatively impacted balance and overall sensory sensitivity (primarily taste, smell and light sensitivity). Sam is mostly sleeping and resting right now (10/5/25), as their energy is minimal, eating has been difficult, and standing and walking is painful.

<div><strong>The overall fundraising ask is $11,300. </strong>This is comprised of: $9,000 towards medical bills; three months of rent plus utilities and other regular expenses, which is approximately $2,000; and some groceries $300.
