Our good friend Mark Townsend will be undergoing surgery again on January 2nd.
For the last 18 years Mark has been struggling with complications due to a surgical mishap incurred during what should have been a routine appendectomy. Mark has endured countless doctors visits, corrective surgeries and a mountain of medical bills. I've witnessed him work very hard trying to pay off past major medical debts on top of the costs of everyday living and paying a mortgage.
In October, after several years without issue Mark began experience pain again and would have to undergo surgery again. Within a month of that surgery he was told that the corrective surgery had failed and that a different type of surgery would need to be performed to reroute the remaining undamaged tissue.
I sat down with Mark a few days ago to add up his medical bills thus far and what is coming. Once we factored in his time off of work for recovery everything totaled up to $10,000. Mark had already maxed out his credit cards in order to pay all of his medical deposits thus far and is struggling to afford the deposit for his surgery without becoming behind in his mortgage payments.
The goal of this GoFundMe campaign is to bring Mark's friends, neighbors and community together to help him get healthy and help ease the burden of paying off another round of medical debt for the next few years. If you are able to contribute anything towards this cause it would be a great help to Mark.
