Hi everyone, On New Year's Eve around 10 pm, I was walking my fur baby around my neighborhood like I always do. That specific night as I was walking her, I had a problem with my puppy's collar and it unbuckled. As soon as it unbuckled she ran towards another dog that was being walked. Knowing how my puppy is, it was no surprise that she wanted to run towards that other dog since she loves to play and interact with other dogs.
Unfortunately, the other dog and owner were not so friendly and the owner's initial instinct was to pull out a BB gun and shoot Lyla twice without giving me a chance to grab my own dog in fear that he would shoot at me too. Lyla had to be rushed to an Emergency animal hospital after bleeding profusely for 30 minutes while police arrived. Once I arrived at the hospital, doctors were quickly trying to control her bleeding and were getting images of her. X-rays showed broken ribs and fluid buildup in the chest cavity. Doctors quickly intubated Lyla and performed surgery to try and remove the pellets and bone fragments. She stayed at the animal hospital for 3 days to monitor her breathing and fluid build-up. Doctors stated that there was a possible hernia in her chest cavity that needed attention to make sure she was not in any danger. She currently has 4 staples, 2 sites with stitches, and a lot of inflammation.
All of this unfortunate event was so unexpected & Lyla's vet bills are a major expense along with future CT scans that are needed. I would appreciate anything that is donated and every little bit of help can come a long way. It would mean everything to me to see Lyla healthy and strong again.
