My fiance’s name is Jay (we’ve been dating for 5 years and we got engaged on Sunday!), and he’s 33 years old. He’s a bar manager/bartender at a local restaurant.
He was recently diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma.
His treatment requires the removal of one of his kidneys, some affected lymph nodes, and an associated thrombosis in a major vein. It’s an open surgery and the recovery time is estimated to be about 8 weeks. That means it’ll be about 2 months before he can return to regular activities like shaking cocktails. We’re hoping that he’ll be able to keep his job since his insurance is workplace-provided.
After his surgery and recovery, the doctors plan to start him on immunotherapy to help prevent the cancer from returning/spreading (chemotherapy and radiation aren’t very effective on kidney cancers).
