Have you ever crossed paths with someone in your life who is just a genuinely good person? You know, someone who amazes you with their compassion, tenacity, and charisma. Someone who is a cheerleader for everyone and who continuously improves the lives of those around her. Hazel Silva is this person. While she is only 21 years of age, she has already had an everlasting impact on all who know her.
Hazel has been diagnosed with Subglottic Stenosis, a relatively rare condition which causes narrowing of the airway. Subglottic Stenosis occurs just below the level of the vocal folds, which is naturally the most narrow point in the adult airway. To resect Subglottic Stenosis can prove more difficult because of the proximity to the vocal folds. The condition can be life threatening.
On July 17, 2017, Hazel underwent her first procedure for Subglottic Stenosis. Hazel has been in the ICU ever since. Her situation is currently day to day. When Hazel makes a full recovery and is eventually discharged, she will still have an ongoing fight.
Hazel is fierce and has more fight in her than most people I have ever met, however, she cannot do this alone. The medical bills for her five days (and counting) in ICU are astronomical.
Hazel has given us so much; it is our turn to help her.
This fundraiser has been setup with the approval of Hazel's family and boyfriend. All of the donations will go directly to her family to help offset the medical costs incurred for her treatment.
